The original proviso of Reuter´s legacy required that the Foundation create a home in Berlin for those young refugees, students and apprentices currently in training. To ensure this doesn´t change, the Bürgermeister-Reuter-Stiftung will continue to secure new accommodation for students, school pupils, apprentices and workers.

April 1959

Takeover of the Ernst Reuter Archive from the Ernst-Reuter-Gesellschaft.

June 1960

Laying of the foundation stone for the Ernst Reuter Building in Triftstr. 67, 13353 Berlin.

April 1961

Inauguration and naming by then acting mayor Willy Brandt and the commander of the American Zone in Berlin, General Ralph M. Osborne. Because this ceremony was for the first of the homes, it was named after the founder Ernst Reuter.

September 1962

Laying of the foundation stone for the Paul-Hertz Building in Genterstr. 53, 13353 Berlin.

Dr. Paul Hertz was Senator for Business and Finance from 1955 to 1961 and the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Mayor Reuter Foundation from 1953 to 1961.

December 1963

Completion of the Paul Hertz Building.

November 1964

Roofing ceremony for the Paul Fleischmann Building in Iranische Str. 6, 13347 Berlin.

Paul Fleischmann was Senator for Employment between 1951 and 1953 and President of the State Employment Office from 1952 to 1957.

1965

The Ernst Reuter Archive is acquired by the Berlin State Archive due to its particular, historical importance.

October 1966

Completion of the Paul Fleischmann Building.

May 1967

Roofing ceremony for the Walter May Residence for Students in Lynarstr. 5, 13353 Berlin.

May 1968

Naming ceremony in honour of Walter May.

Walter May served as an education councillor for Greater Berlin under Ernst Reuter between 1947 and 1951 and on the high school board in Berlin-Reinickendorf from 1950 to 1953.

1980

Conversion of rooms to apartments at old Ernst Reuter Building.

1996

Completion of new Ernst Reuter Building located at Triftstrasse 67 A and Sparrstrasse 9, 13353 Berlin.

May 2000

Opening of JGH Berlin a youth hostel in the Antwerpener Str. 40, 13353 Berlin.

November 2007

Sale of the Paul Fleischmann Building.

June 2009

Opening of Café Reuter in the Ernst Reuter Building at Triftstrasse 67, 13353 Berlin.

July 2009

Takeover of running of the student residences in Hanielweg (Hanielweg 21-23, 12277 Berlin) and Brunnenstrasse (Brunnenstr. 129-130, 13355 Berlin) in the management of BRST.

January 2010

Takeover of business operations of the not-for-profit JGH Berlin gGmbH.

January 2011

Founding of the company Arwon GmbH.

April 2011

Takeover of running of the student residence in Keithstrasse (Keithstr. 36, 10787 Berlin) in the management of BRST.

April 2012

Takeover of running of the Hotel Lützow (Keithstr. 38, 10787 Berlin) in the management of Arwon GmbH.

April 2016

Laying of the foundation stone for the Alfred-Jung-Straße Building in Alfred-Jung-Straße 14, 10369 Berlin.
